Integrated Syllabus – Minimum 150 Hours Flight Time

If you enrol on an integrated CPL course, before you sit the CPL flight test, you will need a minimum 150 hours flight time of which 70 hours must be solo/pilot in command(including a minimum 20 hours cross country as Pilot on Command). With the integrated course, the theory and the flight training are coordinated and conducted together and follow a specified CASA syllabus.

The non integrated syllabus provides more flexibility with your training however it requires a minimum 200 hours flight time of which 100 must be solo/pilot in command (including a minimum 20 hours cross country as Pilot on Command) Please discuss with us the best course for your needs and please note that many students do require more than 150 hours experience under the integrated syllabus to meet the required competency for the CPL flight test.

International High Standard

The training for the CPL is aimed at achieving a high standard of flying skill, knowledge and airmanship. You will be specifically instructed in the procedures for conducting commercial operations. This will include the management of passengers as well as the management of the aircraft.

You will be consolidating all your knowledge and practical skill in navigational exercises, carrying out normal procedures and all types of emergency procedures. You will practice making many command decisions under pressure and in various circumstances in order to simulate real life situations and increase situational awareness.

Theory Examinations

Before you attempt the CPL flight test, you must pass 7 CPL theory examinations covering similar subjects in the PPL, but to a greater degree of knowledge. The theory subjects are:

  • Navigation
  • Meteorology
  • Aerodynamics
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Flight Rules & Air Law
  • Human Factors
  • Operation, Performance & Flight Planning

After passing the CPL flight test, you will be issued with the Commercial Pilot Licence. This licence entitles you to carry passengers for hire and reward when held in association with a licensed Air Operating Certificate. This licence is required to operate as a light aircraft charter pilot. You will now be able to fly as the pilot in command of a single pilot aircraft, or as the co-pilot in a multi-crew aircraft.

Estimated Cost

Solo Hours Building Note: this is based on starting the course as per our PPL syllabus wherein you would have 10.5 hours solo. You may have more than this, in which case you just need to fly whatever additional hours are required so that you have a minimum total of 70 hours solo by your CPL Flight Test. Our current solo rate for the PA28 is $315/hour   59.5hrs   $19,932
General Flying (Dual PA28 Warrior) 3.5hrs $1575
General Handling & Navigation Training (Dual PA-28R Arrow) 34hrs $17,340
Instrument Flying (ST2000 Synthetic Trainer)  4 hrs  $1100
Flight Test ( PA28R SOLO) 3.5hrs  $1400
CASA Flight Test Fee  $1250
Total $42,597

We use the Piper PA28R Arrow for most of the CPL training. This aircraft has a constant speed (variable pitch) propeller, retractable landing gear and a cruise speed well in excess of the minimum of 120 knots set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for Commercial Pilot Training.

Above is a cost estimate based upon the minimum training hours required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for the issue of a C.P.L. The above cost does not include any text books or theory cost’s. It should be emphasised that this is a guide only and is not to be taken as a formal quote since the actual training times required will depend upon many factors, especially personal ability.

Note. Prices are subject to change and are plus GST if applicable. All Landing and Towers fees excluding Ayers Rock, Essendon, Avalon and Capital City Primary Airports are included in the estimate.* This course information is for local Australian residents not requiring a student visa, training only.
