Once qualified on a basic aircraft fitted with a fixed pitch propeller and a fixed landing gear pilots want to add to their skills by learning to fly a more advanced aircraft.
A typical training program for this conversion requires between 3 and 4 hours depending on each individual level of experience. After a briefing session on both the aircraft and its systems, the first flight session involves getting used to a heavier and faster aircraft.

Moorabbin Aviation Services offers conversion onto the Piper PA28R Arrow, a four seater with a larger capacity engine than its fixed gear counterpart.
