Admission Requirements

  • Completion of a  CASA Class 2 Aviation Medical
  • English Language proficiency (please see below for full details)
  • Be 18 years of age by course commencement
  • Be willing to undergo an Australian Federal Police check for issue of your Aviation Security Identity Card

Privileges of the Private Pilot License
On completion of your Private Pilot License (PPL) you can fly yourself and passengers, by day, anywh ere in Australia in visual flight conditions. You can convert your Private Pilot License to a local licence when you return home. The Private Pilot License is a recreational licence only. You cannot be paid to fly as a Private Pilot License holder.

Course fee includes:
1. Flying

Definitions:

  • Dual – Flight training with an instructor
  • Solo – Flight training with the student acting as pilot in command – no instructor.

Flying Hours:

  • 53 hours dual Piper Warrior (includes 3 hours for Private Pilot License flight test)
  • 10 hours solo Piper Warrior

2. Theory

  • Basic Aeronautical Knowledge theory course (including books) – 4 weeks full time
  • Private Pilot License theory course(including books) – 4 weeks full time

    The course fee includes estimated flying hours, all theory, textbooks, navigation equipment, maps/charts and initial issue of CASA documents.Landing fees and en-route navigation charges shall be charged separately. An invoice shall be issued by course completion.CASA fees are not included in your course fees and are payable directly to CASA.. These include licence issue (approximately $50), flight test fees (approximately $600), theory exam fees (approximately $150), aviation medical (approximately $300) and ASIC security clearance (approximately $200).

Private Pilot License Flight Test

You will demonstrate your skill to an approved testing officer by departing for a round trip with two or more landings/turning points enroute. You will be able to show that you can divert to an alternative location and overall, demonstrate competent planning and management of the flight, observing all procedures and rules, navigation, radio work and airmanship before successfully completing the flight.

After passing the PPL Test, you will be issued with the licence which enables you to fly anywhere within Australia, solo or with private passengers in daytime visual meteorological conditions. You will no longer require your instructor’s permission to undertake a flight as pilot in command.

Note:
The course fee includes all theory, textbooks, and flight test fee (for the first attempt only), navigation equipment, maps/charts and initial issue CASA documents.

Should the student require additional training or have to re-sit any flight test, the additional cost will be charged at current published rates.

Landing fees and en-route navigation charges shall be charged separately. An invoice shall be issued every 12 weeks from course commencement and upon course completion.

Licence issue and theory exam fees are not included and are payable directly to CASA.

English Language Requirements:

The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requires you to meet ONE of the following English language requirements.

Please note: depending on your country of citizenship, the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection might require you to have undertaken a formal English test for issue of your Student Visa.

To check whether or not you need to have undertaken a formal English test, please visit http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1 (under “Purpose” select “Study in Australia” then look at “eligibility requirements”)

Remember that even if you don’t need a formal test for your student visa, you still need to meet one of the requirements below.

A) The applicant has undertaken or completed his/her secondary education in an Australian or New Zealand educational institution, or the equivalent of an Australian secondary education in a country where one of the principal mediums of instruction had been in English OR the applicant is still receiving secondary education in Australia or New Zealand where the language of instruction at the school is English.

* This means that if you completed High School and the medium of instruction was English at least 50% of the time, you will meet this requirement. We will need a letter from your school to confirm this.

OR

B) The applicant has spent at least three in the past five years of employment in Australia, New Zealand or a specified country (UK, USA, Republic of Ireland, Canada*), where the documented evidence may include a group certificate, a number of pay slips or a letter from your employer stating the period that you worked in that workplace.

OR

C) The applicant achieves at least the minimum score on one of the following English tests (the test must have been taken within the previous 2 years) 

Note: 
Level 1 & 2 applicants can select any of the tests below. 
Level 3 applicants: TOEIC not available to you

i. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Either General or Academic. Minimum test score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0.

ii. TOEFL CBT. Minimum score: 197

iii. TOEFL iBT. Minimum score 71

iv. TOEFL Paper Based test. Minimum score 527 (Note: the Department of Immigration only allows this test form a very limited number of countries)

v. TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) Minimum scores:
(i) Listening: 350 ii) Reading : 300 (iii) Speaking: 160 (iv) Writing: 140
